Music, Songwriting, & Performance
Open Mic Hosting
Mip hosts and facilitates open mics throughout Toronto and can bring that experience to festivals and community spaces. The focus is on creating an inclusive and welcoming stage for performers of all levels.
Songwriter Circle: Process & Craft
Mip hosts a songwriter circle where participants share songs, talk about their creative process, and explore approaches to lyric writing, melody, and inspiration.
Songwriting 101: From Idea to Song
A beginner-friendly introduction to songwriting covering basic structure, lyric ideas, chord progressions, and ways to turn fragments into finished songs.
Collaborative Songwriting Workshop
Participants work together to build a song in real time. We experiment with lyrical prompts, melody ideas, and group collaboration to create something new together.
Guided Jam Circle
A welcoming jam space where participants learn how to play music together in a group setting. Using a simple songbook and chord charts, we explore rhythm, listening, and musical collaboration. Multiple instruments and skill levels are welcome (space permitting).
Visual Art & Media
Collaborative Zine Workshop
Participants learn about the history and culture of zines while creating pages around a shared theme. The pages are compiled into a collaborative zine that can be printed or shared digitally.
Paint Night (Acrylic Painting Workshop)
A relaxed paint night where participants create an acrylic painting while learning basic painting techniques. No experience necessary — the focus is on creativity, experimentation, and enjoying the process.
Mixed Media Collage Jam
A relaxed creative session using collage, text fragments, and drawing prompts to create expressive visual pieces.
Storytelling & Games
Collaborative Storytelling through Tabletop RPGs
An introduction to collaborative storytelling through tabletop role-playing games like Dungeons & Dragons and indie RPGs. Participants explore how characters, improvisation, and shared imagination build narrative worlds.
Game Design & Play Session: Band vs World
Participants get a brief introduction to Mip’s tabletop RPG design project and try a round of Band vs World: a game about living the indie-musician life – one gig, one disaster, one bonkers interaction at a time. The workshop also offers insight into the creative process behind independent game design.
Workshops can be adapted for festivals, libraries, community centres, pop-ups, and arts programming. Sessions can range from 1 to 3 hours and can be tailored for different ages and experience levels. Private bookings and special events are also available.
