Biography
“Well-rounded smart music that’s weird in all the right ways” ~ Kirsty Chan, Greyowl Point

SHORT BIO
The Mip Power Trio, led by genre-smashing art rocker Mip, delivers a “raw and wild” sound—visceral, thought-provoking, and steeped in millennial grit. Formed in 2010 after Mip’s leap from small-town BC to Toronto, the trio—joined by Greg Kowalczyk (bass) and Devin Jannetta (drums)—channels punk energy with Americana roots. Mip’s sharp lyrics capture the humour and anxieties of student debt, precarious work, and changing cultural landscapes. With two LPs, two EPs, and a 2025 release on the way, they’ve earned a reputation as Toronto’s best-kept secret, combining passion, resilience, and an undeniable dedication to their craft.

LONG BIO
The Mip Power Trio, fronted by genre-smashing art rocker Mip, delivers a “raw and wild” sound—both visceral and thought-provoking.

Mip arrived in Toronto in 2009, a small-town kid from northwestern BC armed with nothing but a suitcase, two guitars, and a dream. Determined to make her mark, she scoured the city’s open mics and punk havens, forming the Mip Power Trio within a year. Joined by bassist Greg Kowalczyk and drummer Devin Jannetta, the band forged a punchy, rock ‘n’ roll pastiche often likened to Janis Joplin fronting The Clash, with the lyrical depth of early Springsteen.

Mip’s songwriting has been described as “witty, cutting, astute, and quirky,” blending Americana influences with punk energy. Her lyrics capture the anxieties and humour of a millennial generation shaped by student debt, precarious work, and housing struggles—all while carrying the echoes of mixtapes, iPods, and a changing cultural landscape. With a BA in history, Mip approaches her work like a musical archivist, documenting the resilience of a generation navigating uncertain times.

Through years of relentless gigging in dive bars and remote festivals, the Mip Power Trio has built a devoted following, earning a reputation as Toronto’s best-kept secret. With two LPs and two EPs under their belt, they’ve kept busy both in the studio and on stage. Currently preparing their next release for 2025, the band continues to tour Ontario and plans a mini summer tour in BC, proving their dedication to delivering music that connects, challenges, and endures.
