SHORT BIO
Fronted by genre-smashing art rocker Mip, the Mip Power Trio delivers a “raw and wild” sound that is both visceral and thought-provoking. Mip’s songwriting, described as “witty, cutting, astute, and quirky,” fuses Americana influences with punk energy, creating music that captivates and challenges in equal measure. Through years of relentless gigging in dive bars and remote festivals, the band has built a devoted following, earning a reputation as Toronto’s best-kept secret.
Mip arrived in Toronto in 2009—a small-town kid from northwestern BC taking on the big smoke with nothing but a suitcase and two guitars. Determined to make her mark, she scoured the city’s open mics and punk havens, forming the Mip Power Trio within a year. Joined by bassist Greg Kowalczyk and drummer Devin Jannetta, the band forged a punchy, rock ‘n’ roll pastiche often likened to Janis Joplin fronting The Clash, with the lyrical spirit of early Springsteen.

The year 2023 was a busy one for the band, starting off strong with a packed double EP release party for “Caught in Between” EP and “Jacked” EP. They also recorded 2 new singles – a cover of “Too Bad” (Doug & the Slugs) for independent radio and a version of original song “Hit the Road.” Now into the year 2024, the band is hunkering down to fine-tune their newest record with aims to start releasing tracks in 2025.
Previous album releases for the band include “Haggard & Bedraggled” LP in 2013 and “Half Pint Full Heart” LP in 2015. The latter was produced by Ian McGettigan (Thrush Hermit).
Touring Canada is also back on the Mip Power Trio’s agenda. The band is starting to make a dent in the Ontario festival scene in 2024 and a 3 week-long tour out west in 2023 saw the trio tackle a mini-tour and 4 festivals including the 40th Annual Midsummer Music Festival in Mip’s hometown of Smithers. Since 2011 they’ve put 6 tours and countless shows under their belt with no intention of slowing down.
Rest assured, momentum is building for the Mip Power Trio and their unapologetic fusion of wit, energy, and raw musical prowess will bring out your inner wild child.

– Julie Fowler, Executive and Artistic Director for the ArtsWells Music Festival and Island Mountain Arts, Wells, BC
“Mip is an electrifying performer whose powerhouse vocals, larger than life stage presence, confidence and authority, mainlines the essense of the likes of Janice Joplin and Courtney Love, giving her that rare ability to command a stage and own an audience from the first chord to long after the last encore, leaving the sweaty masses hungry and begging for more.”
– Paul Crawford, Artistic Director for the ArtsWells Music Festival and Island Mountain Arts, Wells, BC

PRESS
“the album immediately heads off on a different course with the Mip Power Trio who Hit The Road with a catchy as hell track that has the feel of Millie Manders & The Shutup or maybe Even In Blackouts.”
– ThePunkSite.com
“The music was raw and wild, filled with power and driving grooves. MIP certainly got the upstairs hall bouncing and raring to go into the night.”
-Michelle Footz, Roots Music Canada
“The first thing that stands out on this album is Mip’s voice. She has quite the vocal range and her style, while being distinct, reminds me of Janis Joplin…[the Mip power trio has] certainly created their own sound…a sound that encompasses the spirit of the album: energy and good times.”
-Joey Beaudin, Bucket List Music Reviews Blog
“With tight musicianship, strong lead vocals and sweet harmonies driving the music, coupled with the band’s fun, casual party vibe, I dare you to not move your feet…”

“..truly at home on this stage…Mip mixes stripped down rock n roll with folk elements and a hint of everything from country to blues…The lyrics are clever yet understated; the melodies are catchy and filled with energy. There are no gimmicks here, just great narrative storytelling that is sure to lift the spirits.”
– Tanya Natapov, Canadian Content Machine
“Hard-working TO rock ‘n’ roll threesome have a spunky take on things, with lead guitar Mip the star of the show.”
